As a core company of the Hankyu Hanshin Holdings Group, Hankyu Hanshin Properties is a comprehensive developer that has long contributed to enriching lifestyles by engaging in town planning, urban development, and housing projects. In recent years, we have also been expanding our areas of business beyond the Kinki Region to the Tokyo metropolitan area and overseas, mainly in ASEAN countries as well as Australia and the U.S.
With the recent intensification of natural disasters due to global warming and the growing risks associated with global and economic turmoil, there is an increasing interest in resilient urban development that ensures the safety and security of communities.
In response to this business environment and rapid changes in the socio-economic environment, we are implementing measures to help build a sustainable society, and Hankyu Hanshin Properties has been moving forward with various ESG (Environmental, Social, Corporate Governance) initiatives in accordance with the Sustainability Declaration announced by the Group in May 2020.
The Japanese government aims to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. In line with this, we are promoting environmentally and people-conscious urban development through our Housing Business, including the creation of ZEH-M Oriented condominiums for sale and rent(*).
In our condominiums for sale, we use domestically-produced wood for decorative materials in common areas. As a general rule, we use locally sourced wood, thereby reducing CO2 emissions during transport while contributing to the conservation of local forests.
We also participate in resource recycling initiatives, such as collecting used cooking oil from condominium households for conversion into fuel and recycling unwanted clothing.
* Excludes some properties such as joint projects with other companies.
We have introduced renewable energy-derived electric power in our offices and commercial facilities, and by fiscal 2025 we plan to switch to renewable energy for about 90% of the electric power usage in facilities operated along the Hankyu and Hanshin rail lines and in the Osaka-Umeda area. We utilize a Building Energy Management System (BEMS) in some buildings to visualize energy consumption and efficiency, which is used for energy-saving operations and efficient control of building equipment as well as to control the temperature and humidity for a more comfortable environment.
As part of our efforts to raise environmental awareness among employees, we designated part of the Ki-Na Forest in Kobe, Hyogo Prefecture as “Hankyu Hanshin Properties Forest” to promote the use of forest resources while enabling employees to participate in forest conservation activities.
With the increase of dual-income households and the declining birthrate and aging population in Japan, there is a growing movement to achieve better balance between childcare, nursing care, and work, and society at large is increasingly focused on ensuring that everyone can thrive, regardless of nationality, gender, age, or disability.
We are working to promote diversity and inclusion in the workplace so that diverse talent with different backgrounds and values can respect one another and thrive, while also enhancing employee satisfaction, and strengthening health management.
To ensure customer satisfaction and contribute to society, as a member of the Hankyu Hanshin Holdings Group, we are working to strengthen and enhance corporate governance by further increasing the transparency and soundness of management, complying with laws and regulations, and disclosing information in a timely and appropriate manner.
Specifically, we have established employee training using a Compliance Guide and a Corporate Ethics Consultation Desk to ensure compliance.
We have also set up a risk management system to prevent risks before they occur and minimize losses when they do occur.
By conducting risk surveys throughout the Group, we are able to identify risks related to climate change, public health disasters and accidents, legal compliance, and organizational operations, and we ensure sound management by responding appropriately to risks.
Together with the rest of the Group, we will leverage over a hundred years of experience in urban and human development and connect these efforts to the future, and proactively participate in seeking solutions for social and environmental issues, while accelerating our efforts to contribute to building a society where all people can have a fulfilling and joyful life, and the next generation can have dreams and grow.
