INDEX
Since our founding, Hankyu Hanshin Properties has been developing towns and cities in various forms primarily along the Hankyu and Hanshin rail lines in areas such as Osaka-Umeda, while also keeping up with changes in society and the times.
In the Nishinomiya Kitaguchi area (Nishinomiya City, Hyogo Prefecture), we have been continuously contributing to enhancing the area’s value by focusing on development around the train station, including the large-scale commercial facility HANKYU NISHINOMIYA GARDENS, and by providing good-quality housing.
In February 2022, we completely rebuilt the Dai Hanshin Building, which housed the Hanshin Umeda Main Department Store, and the Shin Hankyu Building into a single building of the OSAKA UMEDA TWIN TOWERS SOUTH, which has become our new flagship building.
Following on from the OSAKA UMEDA TWIN TOWERS SOUTH, we have continued with the renovation and rebuilding of our assets in the Osaka-Umeda area, including the Umekita Phase II Development Area Project (GRAND GREEN OSAKA), the Shibata 1-Chome Plan, and other large-scale development projects. Our aim is to make the Osaka-Umeda area, the Group’s largest business base, more internationally competitive and a hub of international exchange that links the world and the Kansai region.
Also, we will continue with urban development to improve the value along rail lines, such as by making effective use of the vacant lot of a hotel that is scheduled to cease operations in the Senri Chuo area (Toyonaka City, Osaka Prefecture), and considering ways that we can contribute to even better urban development.
In the Osaka Umeda area, we are systematically working to increase the value of existing buildings and other facilities, and also actively supporting startups and promoting collaboration and co-creation. Through these measures, we are striving to improve our international competitiveness as a business hub that leads to the creation of new industries.
We expanded the functionality of GVH#5, a members-only co-working space available since 2014, and re-launched it as FUTRWORKS in 2024.
Designed as a co-working space that brings together domestic and international startups globally as well as digital nomads from around the world, FUTRWORKS gives people of different nationalities, cultures, and values the opportunity to learn, grow, and succeed together while embracing both internationalism and diversity.
We held the fifth annual Hankyu Hanshin Properties Co-Creation Award, a pitch contest launched in 2019 to create new value for customers through collaboration between the Company and startups.
We invite startups with services or content to address business themes defined by the Company, and conduct proof-of-concept trials and co-creation with startups selected through a pitch competition.
This kind of initiative has been well received by startup business partners, as it provides them with firsthand knowledge of the voices of those involved in the business. We will continue to actively participate in collaborative and co-creation initiatives to provide new value.
We are carrying out initiatives to create disaster-resistant towns and cities, such as disaster prevention awareness activities, in the Osaka-Umeda area where there is a concentration of offices and commercial facilities, etc.
The Hankyu Corporation, Hanshin Electric Railway Co., Ltd., West Japan Railway Company, GRAND FRONT OSAKA TMO, and Osaka Metro Co., Ltd. comprise the Umeda Area Management Alliance, which operates “Umeda Bo-sai Scrum” disaster prevention activities for visitors to the Umeda area.
This activity provides information on disaster prevention, including evacuation sites when a disaster occurs, and encourages people to think about disaster prevention on a daily basis by disseminating information through disaster prevention awareness posters, digital signage, websites, social media, and other means.
In addition, the project aims to help people acquire the ability to help themselves, and to connect companies and facilities in the Umeda area to enhance the area’s disaster preparedness, by holding disaster prevention seminars for office workers and others in the area.
Disseminating information through digital signage
Various local commercial facilities offer services and events for families so that they can use the facilities safely and comfortably.
· HANKYU NISHINOMIYA GARDENS provides information on family-friendly facilities and services through its dedicated website, “Kids & Baby Guide.”https://nishinomiya-gardens.com/kids_baby
The fourth floor of the main building features an outdoor public garden, “Sky Garden,” with lush greenery and a refreshing fountain. The artificial turf area around the fountain offers a safe place for kids to play. Shoppers can enjoy taking a break here, and families can relax in this open space.
We offer a wide range of services, mainly through the Group’s commercial facilities in the Umeda area, to ensure the comfortable use of the facilities by everyone including overseas visitors.
· In addition to providing multilingual facility brochures and signage, the first basement floor of the HEP FIVE building has a one-stop tax-free counter, creating a comfortable and enjoyable shopping environment.
· We operate ”PREMIUM STYLE IN OSAKA, UMEDA Shopping,” a multilingual website that provides information on the Group’s commercial facilities in the Umeda area.https://umeda-sc.jp/en/
In September 2022, the Company acquired Central Park Mall, a commercial facility representing the West Jakarta area in Indonesia. In addition to creating an exciting atmosphere through the renovation of Tribeca Park located on the mall grounds, we are also taking part in a project operated by Solar Chapter, an NPO that supports economically disadvantaged regions of Indonesia that are vulnerable to the effects of climate change.
Tribeca Park, a courtyard facing the main building of Central Park Mall, is a spacious one-hectare park that is unique among malls in Jakarta and has become an iconic area of Central Park.
We enhanced the value of the park by maximizing its appeal to create a comfortable space for visitors. In addition to tree pruning and path maintenance, we added a grand staircase connecting to an adjacent dining area, creating a new relaxing space for visitors to Central Park Mall.
The grand staircase quickly became a popular photo spot, with visitors often seen sitting on the steps enjoying conversations and takeout food, making it a new gathering place for the community. There are also plans to create a kids’ playground in Tribeca Park, and these initiatives will help create a family-friendly environment.
As part of our corporate social responsibility activities, we are participating in a project supporting Tunabesi in East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia, in collaboration with NPO Solar Chapter, whose aim is to improve the quality of life and promote the sustainable development of communities by establishing a water distribution system mainly in remote areas of Indonesia that are vulnerable to the effects of climate change.
Through various events held at Central Park Mall, such as a charity bazaar organized by the mall management company, employee donations, proceeds from vending machines installed during events, fish-feeding activities, donations via QR codes at tenant stores, and sales of merchandise, we raised 280 million rupiah from visitors and related parties. These donations were used to install solar-powered water distribution equipment in Tunabesi.
In addition to this project, which lasted from September 2023 to September 2024, support for the village of Oenenu will be provided from January to September 2025.
